Word Endings

David noticed that come and coming started the same. We talked about word endings and how we add 'ed' 'ing' and 's' onto works to change how we use them.

He practised changing the ending of come and wrote a new story with his new word- coming.

Yr One- David's story: The driver is coming.

Problem Solving with our families

Miss Johnson's sister brought Room 27 some chocolate Freddo Frogs. We want to know how many chocolate frogs we got.

We know:
There are 5 bags in the box.
Each bag has 15 chocolate frogs.

Can you work with your families to figure out how many chocolate frogs we have altogether?

We have 5 of these packets.
Write or draw your answer with your families at home.

If anyone else at school can answer this problem, leave a comment below with how you solved it, so we can look. We have prizes for those people who do :)

Our Wellness Posters

For our first Parent Partnership Homework task, the Year 2 syndicate made Wellness posters with our families. These posters show what wellness means to each of us and our families. We talked about our cultures, our religion and the different types of food we eat at home.

Peter is sharing his Wellness Poster with the class
These posters are a great way to get to know each others and to show everyone how proud we are of our culture and families.

Learning new words in Reading

David and Izzah were reading a story called Bugs for Breakfast and had trouble reading the word "have."

We used magnetic letters to make this word, then we had to slide our finger under it and read it six times. Then we got to use the giant blackboard to write our new word from our memory!

K: What do we know about Wellness?

This term we are learning all about Wellness. We are learning that our choices effect our Wellness. In week 1 we brainstormed all of the different things we knew about wellness. Miss Johnson asked us "What do you know about wellness?" We used post its to record our ideas.
We looked at the K part of the inquiry cycle- Know! What do we know about Wellness?
Then we noticed that we ended up with lots of ideas, but some of us saw groups within this brainstorm. We sorted our brainstorm into different groups or areas of wellness. This helped us understand that their were six important areas of wellness that we already had ideas about. We were so proud of ourselves.

Welcome to 2016

Introducing Room 27 for 2016. Welcome to our new blog. We are excited to share our learning with you. This blog is where we would like to share our learning with our parents, whanau and school community. It is a place where we can celebrate our learning. This is a learning space and as we are still learning, mistakes will happen, but that's great! We know that mistakes happen and are a part of learning, without mistakes you aren't learning.

We would love for our families to engage with us on this blog, leaving comments and looking at our posts with us at home.
