Worms, worms, worms!

Room 27 had a lot of fun creating a working Worm Farm today! We were exploring ways that we can throw less rubbish away, because we know that rubbish is a problem for our school. 

The worms eat our scrap food, so we set up a compost bin to collect all of our food waste. This is what we feed to our worms. Then we can give our worm t to the edible garden children to help their vegetables grow!

Our new pets!

Room 27 are VERY excited to welcome 300 wiggly and slimy pets to our class. 

Today we got Tiger Worms for our worm farm that we are making on Friday. They are all living in this little box. But don't worry they are alright in there. 

We are making a worm farm to help us fix a big problem in our school... rubbish! We are using the worms to help us answer our question... "How can Room 27 throw away less rubbish?"

Comparative writing

After we used are speaking frames to write about the similarities and differences between different types of bugs, we wrote a comparison between Great White Sharks and Whale Sharks.

We brainstormed all of the features we could identify about these animals. 

Then we used  a Venn Diagram to sort out the different facts we knew about Whale Shark and Great White Sharks. These facts were sorted into those that were true about a Whale Shark, those that were true about a Great White Shark and those that were true about both. 

Summer did a great job sorting these facts into the Venn Diagram. 

Then we used our speaking frames,

They are different because... 

To help use write a comparison between these two animals. 

Statistics in Room 27

In term 1 Room 27 had lots of fun learning about the different features of objects, animals and things around us. We learnt that you can sort and group objects or 'things' by their shared characteristics. 

Miss Johnson gave us a challenge! We had to take photos of things around us and use Pic Collage to create two groups that have shared features. We all did a great job. 

Peter sorted his groups by shape. 

Farharn sorted his groups by colour. 

Donnabelle sorted her pictures by shape. 

Nathan sorted his groups by colour.

Shaye sorted his pictures by size.

Our Wellness Day

Room 27 had a lot of fun with all the Year 1 and 2 classes during our Wellness day. We got to try lots of different activities and had fun exercising with our friends.

Parent Home Learning Evening

This afternoon we have our Home Learning Evening. Each child will receive two maths games, matched to their learning needs, the necessary maths equipment and their Sustainability holiday homework. 

I will be in Room 27 from 3p.m. until 5p.m. to discuss these games with you. Then our Senior Management will be in the library until 6.30p.m. 

This is an opportunity to discuss the holiday homework and learn how to play the games. If you would like to discuss your child's learning we will need to book a time during the week.
